Frugal Each Day 10/23
Everyday I am so grateful for the opportunity to stay home with my kiddos and to do the things I need to do to make this feel like home for them. It always inspires me to find little ways to save. If I can use something we have instead of buying something else, if I can get a deal on something that we need, or if I can make a little bit more to come in to help cover the small expenses, it just adds up in ways that really make a difference. Today felt like a lovely thrifty Thursday!
Sent Sophea packed lunch to school today. She loves taking her lunch to school and would do it every day.... if I always mustered up the time in the morning to make it and plan ahead to have nice variety to put in her lunch bag. And at about $3.50/day to eat at the school I know what I am making is saving us money as well. Today is was blueberry jam and peanut butter sandwich with frozen grapes, baby carrots, and vanilla almond milk.
Got Sophea a pirate costume at GoodWill and didn't buy anything else. They didn't have any actual pirate costumes but I found a little pair of red pants with a long red tie belt, a satin button up shirt that is a few sizes too large and a red satin scarf. I think it'll be such a cute original costume without spending what the premade costumes cost at the store. I'll post a picture tomorrow from when I send her off to school. She may just change her mind about being a princess for Halloween and want to wear this again!
Made home made waffle/pancake mix. We got a really really nice waffle maker (the kind that you flip over that you see in hotel continental breakfasts) this summer for just $1.... really, a dollar? Yeah, I'll take it! and my Hannah just loves making waffles for breakfast, or just whenever. We were really flying through the pancake mix. Then I found a recipe to make your own and I can just put the recipe right on the container I put it in! So easy and less than 1/4 the price as what you buy in the store.
Made vinegar orange spray cleaner. I really love the idea of cleaning naturally and vinegar works so well. Adding a bit of orange peel that would be otherwise thrown away is a great way to add grease cutting power and mask that vinegar smell!
Replace coffee grounds (natural deodorizer) in the fridge and kitchen garbage can. I found out from a friend on Make Life Beautiful some alternate uses for coffee grounds and since I drink coffee daily I was super excited. I just lay out the filter on a plate and let it dry, then freeze. It can be used for deodorizing almost anywhere baking soda would be used... fridge, bottom of the garbage can, or even as room deodorizers. I'll make a post about this later. I actually found a ton of really cool ways to use them instead of throwing them away!
How were you frugal today?
